Emotion in Intercultural Communication– A Sociocultural Model

    Get PDF
Emotion has been widely studied in multiple disciplines which include but are not exhaustive to cognitive psychology, neurobiology, anthropology and linguistics. However, emotion in the context of intercultural communication has received far less well-deserved attention. On the other hand, although certain social factors such as context, common ground, formulaic language use and salience are deemed as indispensable helping us to understand the nature of and challenges in intercultural communication, a key concept such as emotion and its role in shaping people’s perceptions, interpretations, attitudes and language use in intercultural contexts is in effect neglected or taken from an intuitive departure, despite a burgeoning growth of literature contributing to conceptualising intercultural communication theories. In this paper, I intend to fill this overlapping gap in the emotion studies and in the intercultural communication research, drawing on findings on the nature of emotion in cognitive psychology, anthropology and linguistics to develop a sociocultural model theorising emotion in intercultural contexts. Naturally occurring intercultural interactions, where Mandarin is used as the language of communication, are employed to illustrate how the model can be applied to analysing emotion, language and culture in intercultural encounters. It is hoped that this paper can contribute to interdisciplinary efforts on theorising emotion in the area of intercultural communication

Lepton-Jet Correlations in Deep Inelastic Scattering at the Electron-Ion Collider.

We propose the lepton-jet correlation in deep inelastic scattering as a unique tool for the tomography of nucleons and nuclei at the electron-ion collider (EIC). The azimuthal angular correlation between the final state lepton and jet depends on the transverse momentum dependent quark distributions. We take the example of single transverse spin asymmetries to show the sensitivity to the quark Sivers function. When the correlation is studied in lepton-nucleus collisions, transverse momentum broadening effects can be used to explore cold nuclear matter effects. These features make lepton-jet correlations an important new hard probe at the EIC

Research on Influencing Factors of Salespeople's Empowerment Readiness in Green Energy Enterprise

    Get PDF
AbstractAs market competition in green energy enterprises continues to intensify, marketing activities are enlarging and customer demand is increasingly growing and diversifying. More and more green energy enterprises have empowered their own salespeople. And managers in green energy enterprises are more concerned with the issues which employees suit to be empowered and which factors will influence employee empowerment readiness. This paper proposes the definition of salespeople's empowerment readiness, analyzes influencing factors of salespeople's empowerment readiness, discusses the effect mechanism of influencing factors of salespeople's empowerment readiness, finally, and puts forward some suggestions to enhance salespeople's empowerment readiness from the perspective of human resource management practice

Environmental vibration resonances of precise bearing platform built on soft soils

Environmental vibrations generated by vehicle traffic, rail transition, pile driving, explosion, construction and machine can affect human being’s life and work, destroy building structures and influence instrumentation equipment service life and performance. The active vibration isolation mechanism was given and the range of the isolator parameters are discussed that can obtain the ideal vibration isolation effects. One bearing platform has been designed with active vibration isolation system, the frequency of the ground floor and bearing platform are 4.5 Hz and 7.5-11.5 Hz, and the parameters of the isolators and calculated isolation coefficient all meet with the specifications, but the resonances of the bearing platform caused by the environmental vibrations still take place. The geotechnical conditions under the bearing platform reveal that the water table is about 4.0 m and silt clay with 4.6 m thick exists at the position of 5.7 m from the ground surface, and so the upper soils can easily transmit vibrations and cause the resonances. The soft soils were reinforced with concrete piles and the whole stiffness of the soils was enlarged, and the resonances are thoroughly eliminated, which provides some references for the vibration isolation design at the fields with high water table and soft soils

Voting Network for Contour Levee Farmland Segmentation and Classification

High-resolution aerial imagery allows fine details in the segmentation of farmlands. However, small objects and features introduce distortions to the delineation of object boundaries, and larger contextual views are needed to mitigate class confusion. In this work, we present an end-to-end trainable network for segmenting farmlands with contour levees from high-resolution aerial imagery. A fusion block is devised that includes multiple voting blocks to achieve image segmentation and classification. We integrate the fusion block with a backbone and produce both semantic predictions and segmentation slices. The segmentation slices are used to perform majority voting on the predictions. The network is trained to assign the most likely class label of a segment to its pixels, learning the concept of farmlands rather than analyzing constitutive pixels separately. We evaluate our method using images from the National Agriculture Imagery Program. Our method achieved an average accuracy of 94.34\%. Compared to the state-of-the-art methods, the proposed method obtains an improvement of 6.96% and 2.63% in the F1 score on average
